Magnetic lab stirrers work by applying a rotating magnetic field through the use of compact electrical motors. When ferrous bars or pills coated in non-reactive PTFE, are placed in a vessel, the applied magnetic force stirs the bar or pill, which in turn stirs the liquid inside the vessel.

Magnetic stirrers are perfect for stirring hermetically sealed vessels, for applications that need continual stirring, and for situations where using stirring rods, mechanical stirrers or motorized stirrers may not be practical.
