A Graham condenser is a glass spiral-coiled tube surrounded by a water jacket. Their uses include distillation, reflux and extraction.
Vapor from a distillation is run through the spiral tube and recondensed by the cooling effect of running water through the water jacket. This flows through the tube into a receiving flask.
The spiral inside the water jackets gives extensive surface area to allow for the cooling of higher temperature vapors. However these increasingly require the support of retort stands at greater lengths.
A Graham condenser has the draw back that once vapor condenses within the tube, vapor tends to be forces back up the tube which can lead to flooding.
These graham condensers have two ground glass joints which are compatible with most of the glassware here at LabGeek, making for hassle free connections. When fitted, these glass joins provide a tight seal to prevent leakages.
Joint clips are highly recommended to keep these joints securely in place.
